Housewrap over wood siding?

Bathroomaddition | Posted in General Questions on

I need to replace the aluminum siding on my house. Currently the house has aluminum siding, 1/2” foil face board insulation, wood lap siding, celotex fiberboard sheathing (in that order). There is no WRB other than the asphalt coating in the celotex. I am nervous to remove the wood siding due to lead paint and damaging the celotex. I would like to remove the aluminum siding, add Tyvek on top of the foam insulation, integrate the Tyvek into the window flashing if any exists, and then install vinyl siding. Im I creating a moisture trap by doing this? Thanks.

Oh and the insulation within the walls is this odd foil reflective insulation. I can’t find a name brand but it looks like this vintage photo. All of these unusual products combine to me scratching my head on how to proceed.

    Hi Bathroomaddition.

Tyvek is a vapor-open housewrap, so, you will not be changing the vapor profile of the wall. If you don't have any known moisture issues currently, you won't cause any by adding Tyvek.
