How would you heat this house?

sevak | Posted in General Questions on

Hi,

I need to make a plan on how to heat this 950 square foot ranch house which currently has oil heat and a propane water heater, no gas connections. Location: Massachusetts and Rhode Island border. Cheaply and least maintenance would be preferable.

Do you want cheap in terms of installation, or cheap in terms of operation? Cheapest to operate is probably going to be mini splits or another type of heat pump, but that’s likely to also be the highest cost to install. On the opposite end of the spectrum, electric resistance heat is probably going to be the cheapest to install but will almost certainly be the highest cost to operate.
