HRV in bathrooms

sugarshack55 | Posted in Mechanicals on

My bathrooms and kitchen fans that are connected to my HRV have suddenly become noisy. My main HRV seems to run without a noise. Is there a separate fan for the bathrooms and kitchen, or could it be the fan runs slower for those rooms and so the noise only shows on low speed. Lastly; What is the fix?

I'm not sure I understand the situation. There are two common configurations for venting bathrooms when you have a central HRV:

    1. The HRV takes exhaust from the bathrooms and kitchen, and when you need to vent the bathroom, you boost the central HRV fan speed with a button in the bathroom.

    2. In addition to the HRV, there are separate exhaust fans for the bathrooms, that vent directly outside, not through the HRV.

Do you know which of those setups your have? Or is it something else?

hey Charlie I have option 1, so, if I boost the HRV the fam has a rattle. Does that mean the fan needs replacement, or, can it be lubricated?

"Is there a separate fan for the bathrooms and kitchen...?"

This is something no one will know besides the installer, or someone who has been there and looked at it. It would certainly be unusual if you had ducts in those places that connected to the HRV but also had their own fans.
