HRV intake below grade?

KrisCurrie | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

Is there any benefit to running X amount of pipe below frost grade to pre-heat/ cool intake air to an HRV? Would this not increase the operating performance of the HRV?
Thanks,
Kris

    Kris,
This type of duct, called an "earth tube," has risks as well as potential benefits. To read more on the issue, see Do Earth Tubes Make Any Sense?
