HVAC lineset airsealing with gasket

rondeaunotrondo | Posted in Green Building Techniques on

Hi Folks,

what’s the latest on air sealing HVAC line set which would be three penetrations if following the one thing one hole rule,? I love to have each line go through a gasket and then come together. 475 Does not make a specific product for this. Also, after the one hole one line, how are the lines coming together especially if you’re high up on the house and I have to run it down the exterior? Airex makes a product that brings all of the lines together, but its difficult to air seal if all the lines are pressed together. I’ve seen the picture of the one hole one line through zip but I don’t understand how they come together after the deciding is finished. Thanks!

I usually just put a single sleeve in and run all the lines through that sleeve ("all the lines" would be for a single condenser unit though). Sealing around the sleeve can be done with sealant or a boot, then I use canned foam inside the sleeve. Just inject enough foam to fill the sleeve and you should have a pretty good seal.

One line per hole through the WRB with 457 or Roflex or Siga’s sealing products. Then, those three lines meet together inside the Airex cover and pop out of the Airex as one combined line. If you have exterior insulation or a thick rainscreen this gives you more space behind the Airex to join the lines together.

The Airex is not the thing doing the air sealing in this setup, it’s just being used as a nice looking head flashing. The gaskets attached to the WRB is where the air sealing occurs.
