Insulating around washer drain

JLopez | Posted in General Questions on

I think I got the right approach with trying to insulate washer drain area with XPS  rigid board  R3 0.5 thickness but now questioning if the XPS should go behind it or in front of the drain . I’m thinking behind  , maybe adding fiberglass in front ? correct me if I’m wrong ? Oh and the upper half is Kraft faced fiberglass . I had previously insulated that area and originally was going to insulate the same way all the way down  no XPS. Any thoughts ?

climate 2 , in a non air conditioned attached  garage ,The wall material behind the washer drain is drywall which makes the interior wall living room of my house

You want the insulation on the "cold side" of that drain when you're heating the home. That typically means between the pipe and the exterior side of the wall.
