Insulation trade off for A-frame roof

donarntz | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

My a-frame under construction is mostly roof. Is there any sort of insulation trade off that can be made to prevent me from having to do the entire 3200sf in minimum roof r-value (r-38 for north Georgia)?

If you are on the IRC, you can reduce up to 500 sq.ft. or 20% of the ceiling area to R-30: https://codes.iccsafe.org/content/IRC2018/chapter-11-re-energy-efficiency#IRC2018_Pt04_Ch11_SecN1102.2.2, as long as you meet the criteria listed.
