Last week I picked up an IR camera.  I wanted to see the result of the work my wife and I put in on the installation of the R-13.1 exterior foam.

One picture is in the mechanical room which is inside of the conditioned space and faces northwest. At the time the picture was taken the sun was on that side of the house. You can see in the red cross that the hottest area is about 53.6 degrees F.  If you look really close you can also see a warm spot (white arrow) where one of the foam support screws in penetrating the OSB into the house.

The other picture is in the garage and it faces the same direction. The garage does not have the exterior foam. The hot spot in the garage is 73 degrees F. The temperature delta from the Mech room is about 20 degrees.  The line above is the shadow from the eve. I’d say that result is worth the effort.
