Is this what the Inside of a sheet metal plenum should look like?

user-1102988628 | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

Hi,
Stuck my head inside the newly fabricated and installed plenum out of curiosity. I have no idea what it should look like. Can anybody opine?

Thanks
A

Looks ok to me, although you should check that the corners Fit together tightly. Just make sure it’s a reasonably tight fit and not too much leakage. I thought I saw a flex transition at first, but now it looks like it’s just a cutout for the filter. That cutout shouldn’t be reducing the area of the duct, so it should be open as much as possible and not blocking the open area of the filter.

The X like pattern is done to make the flat parts of the duct more rigid so that it doesn’t flex and make noises. Everything looks shiny and new. Ductwork isn’t something that normally has a lot of precision fit and finish going on, so you just want it to fit correctly and not leak too much. If you have some leaking seams, foil tape or duct mastic will fix that.
