Liquid Flashing + Fentrim Compatibility

SeanRyan | Posted in General Questions on

Quick question for those with experience here… Our sill to concrete foundation is sealed with Siga Fentrim. I just noticed one area where the fentrim got damaged, so I need to repair a 3″ section.

I’m completely out of the Fentrim tape and hoping that either Big Stretch or Prosoco’s R Guard Fast Flash (I have both of these on site) will stick to the Fentrim tape.

Appreciate any insights here, as I’d like to avoid a special order of Fentrim for this small area.

Thanks,

The liquid applied will stick to the Fentrim, but the Fentrim won't stick (permanently) to the liquid applied. This is a general rule, but is true specifically for the Prosoco and Siga products you mention

I'm not sure if the Fentrim is coated to prevent it sticking to itself (it has a liner, so probably not) but it's always a good idea to wipe the tape with acetone before trying to adhere a liquid flashing to it. That will functionally remove most coatings, and also any hand lotions, finger oils, etc.
Easy to do, and well worth the small amount of time.

If the tape has a solvent compatibility issue with acetone, at least use IPA (isopropyl alcohol) which will work partially as well.

      Hey Chris,

I do that with zip tape, but Fentrim has a fuzzy outer layer so not sure that's applicable here?

Sounds like you can skip that step then.

As far as I know, the Fentrim is a PP spunbond nonwoven material with glue on the bottom surface.
It is difficult to glue to PP without a surface treatment first..
