LoE window coating colour changes by sunlight intensity?

Izzza | Posted in General Questions on

So apparently the LoE coatings look different depending on the lighting… please explain!

We have LoE 366 on all the windows on 2 sides (triple glazed units). I noticed the sun coming in had a sort of sickly green hue… at 12:30pm, in southern Ontario, in late March. See the photo below showing an open window beside the fixed window. What a drastic difference!

Oddly, I didn’t notice this during the winter (but windows were closed) and I’m trying to understand how this works. Maybe I only noticed it now because I was looking at our new table, but AI tells me the coating will look most green during strong midday sun like this because of the intensity… it’s confusing because the morning sunlight really does not look green, I’ll have to try another test with an open window at a different time.

That is a gross tint when you compare it to the unfiltered light of the open window!
Do window makers publish spectrums of transmitted light, is it possible to make an informed decision? It does seem like the human eye is pretty could at recalibrating to the local lighting conditions, it's only when they are varied at the same time is it really a perceivable problem. If I put the wrong color temp bulb in a room it stands out, but if they're all the same I quickly adapt and accept it as ok.
