Making a direct vent fireplace roof vent look like a traditional chimney

Working on a Spanish-style property in Los Angeles, CA and we’re installing a Napoleon EX42 direct vent gas fireplace. Instead of using the standard roof terminal/cap we’d like to make it look like a more traditional chimney – does anyone have a detail they can share on the best way to do that?
Came across this article: https://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/article/a-curb-for-your-metal-chimney
We dont have to worry about snow where we are but building the box to stucco and fitting a more traditional chimney shroud on top might work well. Just want to make sure we’re not trapping any water.
Looking to match to existing chimney, something similar to attached. Thanks.

Thanks, Paul this is helpful. In terms of the air barrier do you think it makes more sense to keep that at the roof line (the rest of my air barrier is at roofline) or air seal the chase?
Seems like keeping the air barrier at the roofline would be easiest - flash & seal around the roof penetrations as normal.
User ...404,
Paul (as usual) has given good advice. Continuing the air-barrier around the chase would be difficult at best.
