“Martin Holladay” : 2 specific question on pole shed

mcurrier | Posted in General Questions on

Figured Mr. Holladay wrote the great article on pole sheds and not sure how/if I could send message on here (hence the call out / other member’s help welcome of course).  I’m a younger small organic farmer in zone 5 northern half/third of Illinois.  2 specific questions on pole shed:      1.)  I have vinyl layer under girts (MBA insulation dad had installed)  and want to insulate more.  People tell me to keep the vinyl insulation and work over it.  I see drawbacks to trapping moisture, multiple potential “vapor barriers”, having leaks (not good air barrier), wall not being able to vent outwards ((I’m heating mainly, it could vent inwards w/ retarder)), etc.  Not much in your articles that I’ve found on this topic.  Would you keep it if it were yours (top 6/7 of wall vinyl is decent, but vertical seams would need taped w/ foam in corners maybe; does tape stick to vinyl???)   2.)  When you say you would put osb/ply on inside of girts for “air barrier” on pole shed does that also include house wrap on the outside of the osb/plywood against girts or is it either or (you prefer osb/plywood I see)?

Martin—-great articles for do it yourselfers to understand what they are dealing w/ and figure best case scenarios,   much gratitude.

I tend to ramble, thanks,

Matthew Currier
