Marvin Integrity- All Ultrex vs Wood?

oldbungalow | Posted in Green Products and Materials on

The Integrity windows seem to be popular here, when I pull up the NFRC it looks like the all-ultrex go down to U0.25/SHGC0.19 in a double pane w/ 2 coatings (one room-side). The wood ones seem to have better numbers and include triple pane options.

I haven’t seen the wood-ultrexIntegrity mentioned on here, does anyone have experience with them, and/or know how much more the wood-ultrex runs?

I think the All-Ultrex is moderately priced for a fiberglass. The Pella Impervias seem to have some better numbers (with foam filled frames), but they look a little cheaper to me.

I used the wood-ultrex casements on my house. I was impressed with the quality of the fiberglass and their heft compared to the competition. I went with a pine interior which I am now second-guessing as we now have to finish. In hindsight I may have preferred the all-ultrex or one of the pricier interior woods. I don't know what the cost difference is for Ultrex. As a side note, I went to the lumber yard my framer recommended to get a quote and could not get a number out of them. I got two other quotes and a quote for Andersen 400 series.

Helpful, thanks! I guess I can live with the R4 in the all-ultrex, just nervous about condensation and maintenance related to the room-side i89 coating. i89 is technically not a "hard" coating, which makes me think of fragile camera lenses and the like.

Cardinal says that the i89 coating is about as durable as the glass itself, but you have to avoid using certain types of cleaners that can potentially etch the coating.

Camera lenses have far fancier coatings, often with many layers, than windows do. Camera lens coatings are usually intended to reduce or eliminate reflections. Window coatings are generally intended to restrict the transmitted light spectrum, so they act as optical bandpass filters.
