How to Measure Roof Insulation Thickness

A bit of a disagreement with my installation installer.
He wants to measure at the edge of the baffle (where it staples to the roof deck).
I want him to measure from the high point of the baffle.

I shared your question with former FHB editor Matt Millham because I know his measuring skills to be superhuman. Here is what he said: Whatever the depth of the rafter is minus the depth of the baffle cavity . . . and minus the baffle thickness, if it’s made out of something other than thin plastic or rigid foam.
