Mini Split Unit under elevated deck

johns3km | Posted in General Questions on

Looking to add a deck above a space where my Fujitsu mini split AC outdoor unit is. 15 x 15, 2 foundation walls, the other two would be privacy lattice. Deck would be 6’ high. I didn’t see any recommendations in manual on clearances regarding this. Would I be ok discharging out towards privacy lattice side?

Boston summers, not used for heating.

thanks
kevin

Most units spec a 4' clearance above the unit, so it sounds like you are there. Depending on which direction the units are oriented, you'll still get some recirculation, since it is used for cooling only, this probably won't effect the efficiency much.

I would keep an eye on it in August, if it gets hot under the deck, you might have to take off some of the lattice.

Thanks. If it gets too hot does it just cycle on and off? Long term damage?

Deck only gets morning sun so hopefully it’s a bit cooler back there in August but it will run full speed during a heat wave as it powers 2 2nd floor units.
