New flooring problems?

Gavin12 | Posted in General Questions on

We ordered select grade wood and spent an extra $1800 to avoid boards with defects and such.

Came to our needs build to see this. Seems like wood filler everywhere? Will this look horrible once stained and sealed?

The filler is just at the end joints and some long joints. Milling is never 100% perfect so filling them eliminates tiny gaps, at least when new. Over time, small gaps will likely be visible seasonally.

    Gavin,

    I don't see anything unusual.

Thanks Malcolm. I'll attach another picture with the filler circled in red. If it comes out clean that's fine, but something made me think the boards were poor quality and lots of cracks or holes etc.

        Gavin,

That looks a lot like all the floors I've had done. I'd wait until it's sanded before being too concerned.

Thank you. Yes, it seems typical. I appreciate your response!

            Gavin,

I've always found it a bit odd how they slosh the filler around. The complete opposite of drywalling where you use as little mud as possible. I guess it's just because it comes off so easily with a large floor sander.
