Notch required for sloping rafter on hanger?

Can a 2:12 lean-to roof have its rafters sit only on the edge of the seat of 90 degree face mount joist hanger … or is mandatory to cut a notch so the rafters sit flat on the seat?

    The hanger should come with instructions, follow those.

    Potton,

    There are hangers with adjustable seats, but if they are flat then yes you need to cut them so they have full bearing.
