Off-the-shelf passive solar awnings

bill328 | Posted in General Questions on

Does anyone know of a source where I can purchase and off-the-shelf passive solar awning? I am finding that most are just awnings without any attention to the passive solar aspect. This would be a huge help!

What is a passive solar awning? Do you mean an awning that will block summer sun but allow in winter sun? This is dependent on you location or latitude which will drive the angle and amount of overhang you need depending on the vertical length of your windows or doors..

Yes exactly. Right now, our architect has to design them and then have an engineer certify their integrity. I would like to skip that and use a product that is already being manufactured for this purpose. I assume that such a product would need to be custom sized for each application.

Bill, this company has some off-the-rack sunshades: http://www.crlaurence.com/crlapps/showline/default.aspx?GroupID=37363. You can search their site for related terms--they sell a lot of products that might work for you.
