Polyiso paper facer outdoor CI

SeanRyan | Posted in General Questions on

It seems like all the used polyiso being sold in my area has a “glass reinforced heavy paper on both sides”. Seeing the word paper definitely seems concerning when thinking about using as exterior continuous insulation.

Wondering what the group thinks of the this and if I should steer clear. Picture attached.

Thanks,

It will work just fine, you just need to use a seperate WRB over the facer. You can't just tape the seams and let the kraft/fiberglass mat facer double as your WRB the way you can if you have foil faced polyiso.

I would not hesitate to use this material if this is available to you at low cost. I have used the same stuff myself in my crawlspace, BTW.

Thanks Bill. Makes sense. We have taped zip already on the exterior, so adding another WRB over the foam might be a dealbreaker. Another trip around the building, detailing and additional costs.

If your zip is your wrb than it’s just your thermal control layer and you’re good. You don’t need to add another wrap in this situation.a rainscreen is important though.
