Rain screen fastening

james28 | Posted in Green Building Techniques on

Building an outdoor sauna with therm mod siding over a rain screen.  My question is about attaching the furring strips. I will be using 1/2″ by 3″ furring strips over the studs.  What is my nail spacing for the strips considering the siding will be screwed thru the strips into the studs anyway?  I don’t want to use to many nails for the strips as  I will need room for the siding screws. Thank you

    James,

Use as few as will tack them in place until you start siding. Probably one at the top and one at the bottom will do. You may need one mid-span to keep them straight.
