12” Energy heel scissor trusses for flat and vaulted ceiling areas?

Emel | Posted in General Questions on

Our builder is planning for 12” energy heel scissor trusses across the span of our entire home and I’m currently trying to wrap my mind around how this will work for both the flat ceiling portions (on the ends of the home) and the vaulted ceiling portion in the central living area of the home (living/dining area). Would using the same trusses everywhere not create an insulation problem above the flat roof portions?

We were also told the energy heel trusses would have a lesser exterior elevation than the parallel chord trusses (parallel chord appears to add an additional 18”). It was also said the 12” energy heel scissor trusses would allow for a layer of batt insulation and blown in cellulose over that and a 3/12 interior vault, while the parallel chord trusses would allow for a double layer of batting and a 6/12 interior vault. The insulation value we need in the article is R50. Do these details sound correct? I’m not sure exactly what to ask or clarify.
