Sealing duct boots

1. For duct boots on the ceiling of a second floor, what product would you use to seal the duct boot on the attic side? Great stuff foam? Water-based mastic duct sealant?

2. Is it any better to seal the duct boots on the ceiling from the interior living space vs the attic floor?

3. Is there any utility in sealing duct boots on the floor a first floor living space if there is conditioned basement underneath?

    For sealing clean new metal to metal joints I like the foil tapes.
    For old dirty and dusty work with dissimilar materials I like butyl tape.
    I see almost zero benefit in sealing duct leaks 100% inside the conditioned space.
