Siding detail over a lower roof
I’ve seen several pictures of houses where the siding on the second level is installed tight to the horizontal ridge of a lower roof (picture 1). Other pictures (picture 2) show a gap between the bottom of the siding and the ridge (exposing several inches of flashing).
How much space should be left between the siding and lower roof? How do you detail it along the ridge and at the ends? What about along a sloping roof (picture 3)?
