The only thing correct in your statement is " that you get nothing " .

There is plenty of freely available infoin the Q&A with the search function.
And then you get to read the very informative blogs.
You also get access to discussion with a few of the most brilliants energy nerds in this part of the world.

If that's not enough for you , then ...

There is a small bug on the website which makes some part of the website not available at all,
notably the Q&A and the Blogs ..but it always happens to me when using Opera browser ..don't know if others have experienced this, and if you can't see the Q&A green button at top,
then you are in the "zone " .

You are correct sir. I have been getting nothing from this site for about 4 years now. Oh yeah, along the way I learned enough to save thousands of dollars on the construction of my new house. I avoided several expensive "green" mistakes that various half knowledgeable contractors wanted to foist on me I've learned that in a mild climate an expensive HRV system may be overkill, and I've developed several professional associations with reliable leaders in the field whose opinions I trust. Like most things in life, you get out what you put in.

    Chuck,
I'm guessing that you tried to access GBA today during one of the periods when our website was temporarily down. I apologize on behalf of GBA for the inconvenience.

GBA has a persistent software glitch that we’ve haven’t yet been able to correct, although we are continuing to work on the problem. I have just performed a maneuver called “rebuilding permissions” that usually solves the problem, at least temporarily. Please try again; the site should be working now.

    Again, please accept my apologies.

The outage Jin talks of happens to me every weekend without fail Sat and Sun....I use Google Chrome. Seems to me it may be a backup issue? Does GBA run a backup on the weekends?

    T Shepp,
It's frustrating for all of us, I can assure you. I try to monitor the site as much as I can on weekends, and I perform the "rebuild permissions" maneuver as soon as I am aware of a problem, as long as I am online. The next time it happens, please let me know with an e-mail: martin [at] greenbuildingadvisor [dot] com.

    Hi Martin --

As a new paying user (I think I just went past the free trial period) you should know that Chuck's experience is common. The error message is "You are not authorized to view this page" and the outages are so frequent that at first I also presumed it was a permissions issue. Maybe as a start you could change that error message to be less accusatory and mention the possibility of the technical problems?

As T Shepp mentions, weekends seem particularly bad. Late nights seem bad too. For a while I was wondering if your solution to the spam problem was simply to turn off the forums at night. You have such a great wealth of knowledge here (both in articles and people) and it's a shame that the software often makes this hard to see. I wish you luck, and encourage you to quickly find technology partner that that can hold up their end.

    Nathan,
You're right -- the problem is definitely worse when I am asleep or on weekends when I am occasionally away from my computer. Trust me -- it's frustrating or me as well. I wish I had a magic wand to fix it.

For the sake of all GBA readers, I hope that the Taunton tech wizards come up with a solution soon. Thanks for your patience.
