Sudden ERV problems

green654 | Posted in General Questions on

Hello! We have had no indoor air quality problems since we’ve installed our ERVs for our new build. Everything has been great and we have sensitive indoor air quality meters that measure VOCs. The readings have been low….. until today when the company that installed it came to service it. I have NO idea what they did but the VOCs are through the roof now. What could they have messed up?!? We’ve looked at everything and everything appears to be working. But it’s not! Help!

Did they replace the core? Is it possible that the core is offgassing? Maybe they cleaned inside it with something?

    Could be many things
    - They installed a new filter, and the rubber perimeter of the filter is offgassing VOC's
    - It is a coincidence and something else is causing the high VOC's

I'd keep an eye on the reading through Monday and if it is still high give the company who serviced it a call to ask to speak to the specific tech that was at your property and ask them for a specific summary of what they did.

Did they reset the IAQ monitors at all during their service call? When they recalibrate the monitors sometimes show spikes in VOCs that disappear within a few days.
