Thermal break between garage slab and apron

hondro | Posted in General Questions on

Maybe a detail for this already exists on GBA, but I couldn’t find it. How does one prevent thermal bridging under a garage door through the slab on grade? We are planning 2″ EPS on the interior of the stem wall and under slab at the perimeter, as well as between the slab and stem wall.  Is it reasonable to continue the 2″ EPS across the threshold, and cover the foam with rubber door seal material? Are there better approaches?

Malcolm -- thank you for pointing me to those threads. Indeed, a wealth of ideas and opinions!

Tires will not really touch the foam, all covering is just for neatness[not that neatness doesn't count] so do the detail and use whatever is convenient to cover the exposed edge of the foam

Thanks -- I was hoping that to be the case as long as the exposed face of the foam is fairly narrow.
