How toxic is acrylic adhesive for the purposes of installing a vinyl tile floor? Are there any non or less toxic alternatives that are as effective?

To make a long story short, we have experienced cracking noises when stepping on areas of the floor. The manufacturer is replacing and re-installing the product, but we don’t want to take any chances that this happens again, so we’re considering gluing. Thanks!
