Truss offset from wall studs

Trevor_Lambert | Posted in General Questions on

Building details:
Walls 24″ OC, double top plate, roof trusses 24″ OC.

Question:
Can the trusses be offset from the studs by 2″?
I made the rookie mistake of beginning the layout of the opposite wall from the opposite end. One benefit of this mistake is that I would be able to drive structural screw up through the top plate into the truss. So for that reason, as well as saving the time of moving (or adding) a bunch of studs (including a window rough-in), I’m hoping that being slightly offset from the studs is not a problem.

    Trevor,

No problem at all. See: Ontario Building Code 9.23.11.3

What you describe - sometimes called True Framing - where loads all align, is the exception not the rule.
