Venn diagram of detail-oriented insulation-buying groups (any sound nerds here?)

user941025 | Posted in General Questions on

I’m aware that there are other online communities dedicated to sound/acoustics/dampening/soundproofing questions. Nevertheless, I can’t help but wonder if GBA has many (any?) regular visitors who focus on (in addition to cutting room-to-room transmission) deadening sound waves within rooms, beyond, say, putting carpets down on hard surfaces.

I picked up a few batts of 8lb mineral wool and some 6lb rigid fiberglass recently and was struck by the degree to which the sound nerd customers and the building performance nerd customers don’t seem much to overlap (but maybe I’m wrong) …despite some similarities in attention to detail as well as in materials (and the fact that ASTM data is sitting in the spec sheets).

I am fortunate to be close to useless in both categories, with interest in both, despite a low capacity for skilled execution of any ideas stemming from those interests.

In any case, I’d be curious to read more from people who do have extensive experience working with acoustics, if any are here. Thanks for reading.
