Want to add A-frame type gables (screen room) to existing plan

gettherenow | Posted in GBA Pro Help on

I have plans to build a Log home that has a 10/12 Roof in design. Want to add a Screen room..in a gabled A frame design to back of house. One contractor says its not good idea, but I have seen MANY attached Screen rooms on the internet….they seem to attach to house by cutting back eaves and building a A frame Screen roof on top of existing roof. One internet site used a “Cricket Roof” to divert water from coming into Screen room from roof.

What is best way to handle this and direct water away from Screen room so I don’t have Roof leaks on the existing house as well as Screen room? Should gutters also be utilized?

    Kenneth,
Time to include a sketch. It's usually possible for the gable roof of an addition to intersect an existing roof slope, creating two valleys. But sometimes this type of addition causes problems -- for example, ice buildup and ice dams.

We need to know what you envision, and what the concerns of your builder are.
