Warm climate/high humidity/ductless ventilation assistance

user-7581723 | Posted in GBA Pro Help on

Hello,

Thank you all in advance for any help as I am two years into a mess with humidity and ventilation in our south Florida home.   Being in south Florida the climate is normally very warm and high humidity.   A couple years ago we did a complete gut remodel which included FULL foam insulation ceilings, walls and under the subfloor since the home is built on a raised foundation.

The home is fairly small ~1000 Sq. Ft and completely ductless.  All rooms are cooled via Mitsubishi mini-split units.

In a home like this what would be the best way to ventilate considering how tight the home is with foam and the fact there are no ducts.

Again thank everyone in advance for any help I truly appreciate it.

Thank you!!

You think the house is tight but are you sure?

That may or may not be true the only real way to know is to test the house with a blower door and calculate the Air Changes per Hour or ACH50. I would not recommend a ventilation system unless you measure less than 1.5 ACH50.

Given your outdoor humidity any ventilation system you add is likely to increase you indoor humidity.

Note finding someone with a blower door in Florida may be mission impossible.

You did not say if you replaced your windows when you did your remodel. The things I have seen passing for windows in Florida were all far from air tight.

I know it is silly but I have to ask are your minis set to dry mode?

Are you minis cycling on and off on hot days or are running continuously?
