Where to buy EPS/GPS?

Davin_ | Posted in General Questions on

Curious where you guys are getting your GPS or EPS insulation from?

I saw on another question someone mentioned they worked with Insulfoam.  They looked to be partnered with the big boxes.  Not sure if they will special order products like GPS?

Are there any go-tos for wholesale/contractor programs that make sense over the big boxes?

    Hi Davin.

I know that big box stores are sometimes limited to what they carry (though you may be surprised by what you can get at the Pro Desk at HD). Are you unable to order it from a local lumberyard?

Davin, any lumberyard should be able to get any type of rigid insulation through their distributors, but it will require some lead time, and if they aren't familiar with it (or if they can only order in large quantities) they might try to talk you into what they normally carry. I've had better luck (and found better pricing) with commercial construction and roofing suppliers. Here in New England, Beacon Sales and Kamco are places I might try. But you probably also have a local supplier of the borate-treated EPS I spec for below-grade use: https://www.foam-control.com/contact-us-foam-control/.

I have learned the hard way dozens of times to not try to order anything from big box stores. I have had problems with that nearly 100% of the time. They are good at some things--where else are you going to find everything you need for a renovation after 6pm on a Friday? But not custom orders, in my experience anyway.
