Community and Q&A

Who do I contact or is analysis done here?

brian_mcdonald | Posted in GBA Pro Help on

I have a new construction house that is designed and ready to be built.

I am satisfied with the layout, but need expert analysis on choosing the insulation and HVAC strategy.

I want someone to look specifically at my plans and advise me on this particular project. I am unsatisfied with the “spray foam seems to work well, or i sell a bunch of….” responses that I am getting.

Who performs this type of service? How do i find someone reputable?
Do I just upload plans here in another post?

I live in Northern NJ zone 5A.

Thank you for your help
Brian

    Brian,
A variety of professionals could advise you, ranging from an architect, to a mechanical engineer, to an energy consultant, to a home energy rater (ideally one certified by RESNET or BPI).

If you want, you can post images or plans here, and ask questions about them.

What county do you reside in ? This first link is the person you really want .

The second is for Ben Cohen in New Brunswick . He is a Resnet / Hers rater that is upstanding and honest based on my personal experience .

What type of systems are you thinking of ?

    Thanks for you replies.
During the week I reached out to both of the raters, via their websites, and am waiting for them to contact me.

I am building in Morris County. New Brunswick is a simple car drive away.

Initially I was leaning toward two zone heat pump with furnace back up (gas is available in the street). Insulating with 2" of rigid board on the exterior of the sheathing and bat in the cavities (2x6) framing. admittedly the plethora of options and numerous opinions of tradesman have left me confused as to the best way to go.

I'll post my plans and a better description of what I was looking to accomplish in a different thread.

    Thanks again for your help

    Brian
