Why does the pump discharge piping on my Mitsubishi indoor unit bend up before draining?

aston01 | Posted in Mechanicals on

I’ve been wondering for a while why the drain piping off of the condensate pump bends up ~6in before it turns back down to drain. Mitsubishi’s install manual shows it looking just like the attached photo.

Can anyone provide insight on why this is piped like this?

So the pump is always primed… otherwise partial submerge of impeller will result in cavitation and loss of pressure and flooding of the ahu

    aston01,

As a Christmas gift to those of us with mild OCD, could you please finish cutting off the top of that pipe wrap insulation?
