Out of interest:
is the use of expanding foam strip known in the states? It would simplify installation.
Like that one:

The foam has a different pore size and configuration across the width, so is watertight and permeable outside and airtight and a vapor retarder inside. Will stay flexible and continues to maintain sealing function.
I reckon that this should simplify the installation of inni windows and be a second layer of defense also for outer windows.
