CDsHome | Posted in Green Building Techniques on

Hello

We have Zip R system and have a couple of full wall areas where stone will be applied. What is the best method to apply stone to Zip? Thanks

Assuming the answer is not in the manufacturer's installation instructions, and depending on the thickness of the ZipR insulation, I would contact Huber or hire an Engineer. Either way, to err on the side of caution, I would use two WRB aside from the Zip WRB, since I would not like to chance the ZipR WRB to be in contact with moisture after over-driven nails and miss installed tape. It happens more often than not; is not any different than installing 3-coat stucco cladding.

How thick is your stone? If it is a thin veneer (I think that is 2" or less) you can adhere without metal tabs. If that is the case you are going to do a more traditional scratch coat over wire lath. If it were me, my first layer above your WRB would be Keen Driwall type rain screen break and then staple the wire or screw according to what Huber has to say.
