Basement sub-flooring options

Pensador90 | Posted in General Questions on

Hi Everyone,

I know there’s a ton of information about the different sub-flooring options for a basement. So after endless hours of researching, I’ve narrowed it down to 2 different methods but can’t seem to find which would be the best method.

So both options includes a first layer of 1.5″ of EPS Foam. The next layer would be either:

A) 2 layers of 7/16 OSB (the 2nd layer laid 90 degrees to the first layer)
OR
B)1 layer of 23/32 T&G OSB

Other information
I will be laying down ceramic tiles on the subfloor if that makes a difference.
Basement height is a concern so the 1 layer will be saving me some space even though its nominal
Difference in cost is insignificant
Basement is located in RI

Other questions:
1) Is it necessary to install a layer of Poly with 1.5″ of EPS?

I forgot to mention the most critical factor is time. I have a full-time job, going to school part-time and have a toddler as well, leaving me very little time as you can imagine. So an extra 4-6 hours of work probably equates to a 1-2 weeks delay. Laying 1 layer vs 2 on a ~600 sq ft. area would of course be quicker and allow me to move on to the contractor portion of my project. If I can get away with it without sacrificing anything it'd be preferred.
