Choosing an ERV

Brookcie20 | Posted in General Questions on

Hi there!

I have researched ERV systems and it is all very overwhelming for me. I do not understand all the technical things, so I would really appreciate it if someone can just tell me what to get and how much to use it. Also, if anyone can recommend an ERV consultant, I’d be more than happy to pay their fee! Here are my details and questions below:

1. I have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, so indoor air quality is very important for me.

2. I live in West Texas, I believe zone 3.

3. My home is 4200 square feet, and I haven’t been able to move back in after a mold remediation. I am sensitive to all the new materials that were installed.

4. Which brand ERV system is best for me and my home? My HVAC guy uses Carrier, but I don’t see that brand on any recommended lists.

5. Would I need 2 systems?

6. Is it better to connect the ERV system to the current HVAC system or set up the ERV system completely separate on its own ductwork, supply, returns, etc.

7. How long should I run the ERV daily for really good indoor air quality to eliminate most VOCs that are currently bothering me? 15 min an hour, 30 min an hour? 24/7?

I would really appreciate some guidance! In very basic terms. 😊

Thanks so much!

Brooke
