Best location for mini split air handlers (blueprint included)

Suzukicrash | Posted in General Questions on

I have 1 through the wall unit in my bedroom I’m going to get replaced with a mini split, but I can’t decide the best location for the air handlers in both the bedroom and kitchen (which are closed off from the rest of the house). Also where to put the outside unit. I attached a blueprint of the rooms.

One AC man suggested putting the outside unit on the west side of my house so there would be less copper, where do you guys think the best place is for all 3 pieces of equipment?

The blue X is where my current through the wall unit is (that I’m planning on filling in with cinderblock) and one option for the outside unit, and the red X is the other location option for the outside unit that the AC man suggested. Thanks for any help!

Also, just north of the red X is where he suggested the bedroom air handler but I was thinking just east of the red X on the wall between the bedroom/bathroom.

And for the living room/kitchen air handler he suggested above the fridge on the south wall.

Generally a single head is way over sized for a bedroom. Even with a larger bedroom, it might not be the best solution. I would run the space through one of the online calculators (loadcalc or coolcalc) and see what your loads are. Even the smallest multi split would be 3x the load.

Location also matters if you are using the unit for cooling and heating or just cooling. Generally you don't want the unit to blow directly at people.

Outdoor unit location doesn't matter if it is ground mounted, I would avoid wall mount unless onto masonry wall. Most modern units are very quiet, I would put it where it is easier to connect up.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look up loadCalc to see what you're talking about.

EDIT: I probably used it wrong but only got 1000 BTUs for my bedroom, right now the through the wall unit is a Friedrich kuhl 17,500 BTUs and it cools/eats the room nicely for several years but Is just way too loud.

The Mitsubishi mini split I'm getting is 24,000 BTUs for both rooms, 12,000 for each… but I just want to know anyone who can help my decision for the best location.
