Blower door test

user-7022518 | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

We wanted to thank the GBA Pros and Community for helping us. We broke ground in July (Pretty Good House in Virginia) as first time owner builders. Yesterday we had our first blower door test (pre-insulation and drywall) with Kelly Green Raters and came out with a 1.05 ACH score. We are thrilled! Allison Bailles designed our ductless mini-split system and we wanted to make sure we were on track and we are. Paul and I are the air sealing team and we used information from GBA to figure out what to do. We also wanted to thank Doug McEvers from Air Foil–we used his fantastic electrical boxes. We will have another blower door test after the interior finishing is complete. This is a wonderful resource and enables first time home builders to build homes that will last. Thank you! Lisa and Paul

    Hi Lisa and Paul.

    Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

In today's feature on the control layers of a wall, builder Jake Bruton shares that on a recent 2600 square foot new build, he's put only a day's work into air sealing details and has hit .3ACH50. Hopefully more builders can learn to integrate air sealing techniques into their process, which makes it very cost effective work. Owner/builders' success story like yours could help push professionals to get their @#$ in gear!
