Can a homeowner buy a single CoolCalc Manual J8 report credit?

finePNW | Posted in General Questions on

Or is their “5 reports for $20” option the best one can hope for in terms of getting a “full” report?

I know this isn’t a CoolCalc forum, but I figure folks here have plenty of experience with the software!

For posterity, here is what I heard from support: "Unfortunately, we don't offer single credits at this time. We are working on a homeowner specific version slated to be release early next year (2024) that may have a different pricing model, but it has not been finalized yet."

Yes just buy the five for $20 package. At $20, it's still a good deal in my opinion (also, you may pull other reports in the future). I'm not trying to talk you out of coolcalc, but just be wary of their "broad strokes" approach to calculating loads, especially cooling loads. It may be ACCA approved but there aren't any options in the way of overhand adjustments, etc. that many loads need to take credit for. I haven't compared it yet but I suspect entering identical data (so far as I'm able) in to Coolcalc vs. a more detailed software program like Right J would yield substantially different results.

Appreciate it. I ended up buying a $20 package. No idea what I'll need the other 4 credits for, but I agree -- it's worth $20 if my own HVAC guy is gonna keep dodging my requests to calculate one.
