Concerns for increase in humidity with addition of ERV

Roger_S39 | Posted in General Questions on

Hi all,

After the recent YouTube video on ervs, hrvs, & dehumidifiers, one is concerned with adding humidity to a new construction home with the addition of an ERV.

The home would not have a whole house dehumidifier,  would probably come in under 3.0 ach 50 and would be in North West Arkansas.

Therefore, should one be concerned with soley adding an erv to new homes, or does the video simply point out a possibility, but not a guarantee, that creates concern for people adding ervs without spending to add a whole home dehumidifier system.

Thank you.

You need ventilation and an ERV will add less Summer humidity than an HRV or exhaust ventilation. You probably do want to add a portable dehumidifier.

In my opinion you need an EVR at .3 ACH if you have 3 people in 600 sqf.
In my opinion you do not need an EVR at 1.2 ACH with 2 people in 5000 sqf

A lot of houses will fall somewhere in between in between it becomes a judgment call.

Most new homes could benefit from dehumidification for the first year.
