Did I do this wrong? Mineral wool wall install

mountaincabin | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

Hi everyone,

Should have asked this before but now I really need your help to verify what I’ve done. I have an off grid cabin and tore down my shed to the studs that houses our future solar components. This is an 8×10’ building with currently no heat (may or may not add this).

Did I do this install of my wall wrong? My wall is the following starting with outer layer first:
-Hardie panel
-Tyvek home wrap
-1/2” cdx plywood (seams all liquid flashed)
-4:x6 framing
-comfortbatt mineral wool R23 insulation
-1/2” cdx plywood interior

I have half of the interior done and need your help. Do I need to install plastic before plywood?

Do I need Sheetrock over plywood?

Is plywood wrong?

Can the cavity be ok without a heated building? 3000ft elevation snow mountain area zone 5 I believe.

Thanks for your help!
Zach

    Zach,
    Q. "Do I need to install plastic before plywood?"

    A. No. Attention to airtightness is always a good idea, so you might want to install caulk at the plywood seams.

    Q. "Do I need Sheetrock over plywood?"

    A. No.

    Q. "Is plywood wrong?"

    A. No.

    Q. "Can the cavity be OK without a heated building?"

    A. Yes.

If I add heating, does this change any of your answers Martin?

If I add sheetrock over the top of plywood would this change anything?

    A. No.

    Q. "If I add Sheetrock over the top of plywood would this change anything?"

    A. It wouldn't change much. The joints would be easier to seal (just use paper tape and drywall compound) and it would look more attractive.
