Energy Efficient Aerated Septic System

chrisjohnston2112 | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

I am installing a new aerated septic system. A standard septic tank cannot be installed due to local soil conditions. I have heard some aerated tanks can use a lot of electricity. Does anyone know of an energy star rated aerated septic tank? Any information appreciated!

    Chris,
I don't know of an energy-efficient aerated septic system.

One source cites this information: an aerated septic system draws 384 watts and runs for 720 hours per month. That's a total of 276 kWh per month or 3,312 kWh per year.

If your electricity costs $0.10 per kWh, the system will cost $331 per year to run.
If your electricity costs $0.15 per kWh, the system will cost $497 per year to run.
