Fiberglass windows recommendation?

sbabcock61 | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

I am in the building design stage of an Ontario home.

I am considering Thermotech, Inline, Duxton, and Fibertec Windows.

Any recommendations based on quality service, performance? The numbers all look pretty similar.

    Steve,
I have bought triple-glazed windows from Thermotech and from Inline.

I wouldn't buy Thermotech windows again because their customer service department is so unresponsive.

As a fairly new member, I certainly don't want to contradict Martin, but I have had very good customer service from Thermo-Tech.

I built a home in 2007 with Thermo-tech vinyl windows and Thermo-tech had a rash of bad glass at that time. My local lumber yard (which is owned by a friend) has used them for years and has had very good luck except for a couple of years around 2007 with bad glass sealing. Some of my windows started to loose their seal and get slightly foggy last year. I called my lumber yard and he called Thermo-Tech. They sent a tech to my house to inspect the windows. He confirmed that they were loosing their seal and told me that they had issues with some the windows built around that time.

Even though the warranty only covers materials after 8 years, they built the windows and drove up and installed them. When they were here replacing them, the tech said that a couple of other ones were looking like they were starting to leak, so he said that he was just going to let his manager know that they needed to just replace ALL the windows in my house to make sure I didn't have problems in the future, which they have now done.

I'm certainly not saying they are the best (or even good) windows, but I have had good customer service from them. I am building again in the next 6 months or so and will consider their triple pane windows when I build...just a little concerned with vinyl casements with triple panes (long term durability).

I had a pretty terrible experience with Thermo-Tech as well. In 2009. Similar issues to Martin - terrible customer service.

    That really surprises me...

Maybe my buddy at the lumber yard "leaned" on them to take good care of me???

    Steve,
There are two different companies - Thermotech Fiberglass Fenestration in Ottawa ON (near Carp) and Thermotech Windows Ltd in Ottawa ON (Nepean). - one sells Fiberglass windows, the other sells Vinyl. It is an endless source of confusion when researching the companies and this is probably what is causing confusion here..
Since you are comparing Thermotech to Inline then I presume that you are looking at fiberglass windows - so it is Thermotech Fiberglass Fenestration that you should be checking. I recommend that you check the BBB ratings and pay attention to what these indicate. My own dealings with Thermotech Fiberglass Fenestration have been on-going for almost 2 years now and I still have a multitude of unresolved and serious problems. It has been without a doubt the worst experience that I have ever had with any supplier.

    I had no idea...

The Thermo-tech window company I dealt with is from Sauk Rapids, MN. They build vinyl windows. Probably totally different than the company Martin and Dan are talking about???

Sorry for any confusion I caused!

    Brad

    Thanks for your feedback

Martin - What made you choose Inline over other fiberglass manufacturers ?
