Foamed glass for subslab insulation?

jenny_davis | Posted in Green Products and Materials on

Hello. Wondering if anyone can has experience using Glavel/foamed glass as subslab insulation material. I am planning a frost-protected shallow foundation for a home in Maine and would like to minimize use of foam to the extent possible.
Thanks for considering.

Hi David, yes I designed it for a project in Camden, in conjunction with a Warmform perimeter (which is EPS foam.) I have also consulted on one in Harpswell with a full concrete frost wall. There have been several threads here about it; check the "related questions" somewhere on this screen. Or ask specific questions here.

Thanks Michael. Did you use the Glavel inside the Warmform as slab center fill? Or underneath the whole Warmform perimeter? And what I'm really curious about it, did the code officer give you any trouble about using Glavel or did it go pretty smoothly? Thanks for considering!
