Garage doors

anonymoususer | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

All else equal, do swinging garage doors generally provide a better air seal than overhead/rolling? Im assuming yes after reading Randy Williams 2023 article “Air Sealing Garage Doors” but want to confirm this is correct takeaway….? Thank you

I've found that with garage doors it's all about the execution of the installation. I've seen snow blow through some really expensive doors and some el cheapos that would hold back gale force winds.

Swinging doors 'can ' be more airtight, but doors that large rarely stay square
The real problem with garage doors is lack of attention to detail
    'Oh they all do that'
No door frame, just a flap of rubber nailed to the trim.
Careful detailing can make a decent quality garage door seal, well, decently.
