Green Hemlock board-and-batten siding

Graceconstruction | Posted in General Questions on

Green Hemlock board and batten is really popular in my area due to the high availability and low cost. I usually use strips of T-111 ripped off the 4ā€™ side for a rain screen on dried vertical siding. With two full inches of siding, I was hoping to find something a little thinner. Would some of the dimpled WRBs be enough for this application? The particular situation Iā€™m referencing is reverse board and batten with 1×4 nailed to the walls and 1×8 nailed over them. Thanx in advance for any help.

The reverse board and batten is already pretty much a rain screen, so the only item you have to worry about it is the battens. Since these are thin, I can't see why a simple textured WRB would not be enough.

If you are in heavy rain area, I would still space the battens off with some strapping though. A small real air gap is always the best capillary break.
