Housewrap placement on a “wrap and strap” job

dfvellone | Posted in Green Building Techniques on

Using XPS on my “wrap and strap,” and wondering if the housewrap needs to be installed directly against the XPS or can be installed on the straps directly under the siding.

    Daniel,
For a variety of reasons, you don't want to install the housewrap between the furring strips and the siding. It's acceptable to install the housewrap between the furring strips and the rigid foam, or between the rigid foam and the sheathing.

One of the main reasons that you want air, not housewrap, directly behind the siding is to make sure that damp siding dries quickly. Plastic housewrap behind the siding would slow down the rate of drying.

Thank you. I was reluctant thinking the same regarding moisture, but wasn't certain.
